Please put Sheahan on the unprotected list. The poor power play I feel is the responsibility of the coach. This team is not this bad, the whole coaching staff needs to go. I get cold shivers the way Blashill reminds me of another lost cause.....Dave Lewis. Holland only tolerated his losing record for two seasons. At least Lewis made the playoffs twice. Blashill backed into the playoffs with last minute help last year and now this DISASTER.....Good Riddance

Who scores first - Sheahan, Mrazek, or Howard?

Kidding. Just a [friendly] reminder that we would like acquire AA more than Vanek or Tatar

Realistically speaking though - basic statistics aside - how have Tatar and Vanek played this season? What do the numbers not show?

Tatar needs shoulder surgery and a fat extension. He has also looked very ehh IMO, but since Nyqusit has been suspended and he got moved up to skate with Hank & Mantha he looks a lot better.

Vanek I think would be a great fit next to Toews. He has probably been our best player this year. I never realized how good of a passer he was.

Agree with you here... but I'd say it's an even bigger priority for Illitch Jr. to get rid of Holland even before Blashill. They need a new GM and I'd have no problem if they hired Hitchcock as coach (but I heard he's retiring). Dave Lewis and his two assistants were an epic fail but they also had more talent on the roster to work with than Blashill.

Wings had better keep Jurco protected and leave Sheahan unprotected. Tatar and Nyquist are both 3rd line forwards until they can prove otherwise. Let's face it... neither turned into the the type of rock-solid forwards we hoped they would. And now their trade value is pretty low.

I said it on the Hawks board a few weeks ago and got lambasted by that know-nothing pretentious blogger (thankfully the CHI posters are more level-headed):

Vanek has been more than you could ask for, and aside from face-offs and entertainment value, has replaced everything Pavel Datsyuk took when he left the NHL. When he loses the puck he works the hardest to get it back. He has great offensive numbers on a team that has struggled for the most part to produce offense consistently. His creativity is incredible. He's worth more than just a 1st rounder but that would be the absolute minimum I would expect in a trade return.

Tatar's numbers aren't great, but he's spent a lot of time playing 3rd-line minutes, with goal-scoring-supreme Sheahan. He's been tentative playing in his first year without the Magic Man (dumping pucks in/not carrying, playing simple instead of taking calculated risks, low-percentage shots). He had a lot of chemistry with Datsyuk. IF he's traded (he really shouldn't be) the receiving team will likely be surprised at how good he is with and without the puck. Really smart instincts, great hands, and a great mentality. He should not be traded though.
